On the 16th of June, the first activity of the LARPIC Project – Live Action Role Play to increase Youth Active Citizenship within the Erasmus+ K20 School programme took place in Palermo.

The main objective of the project is to encourage young people to actively participate in the civic life of their country through the implementation of live action role-play.

Indeed, we believe that role-playing can be a good starting point for young people across Europe to stimulate and encourage them to civic activism and to realise that their individual participation and/or action can make a difference.

The Project Coordinator, ST. Methodius School in Sofia (Bulgaria) provided the necessary materials for the official test of the game: the scenario, the setting, the character sheets and the rules of the game. These were the same for all partners, so that they could run the same test and then compare and establish the details for the realisation of the final LARP, according to the manifested preferences of the target group. In this case, the game was set between Italy and Senegal and the participants were supposed to discuss the realisation of an educational centre for children. The roles to be played included politicians, public figures and activists.

CEIPES, as Italian project partner, implemented the activity at the Don Orione Oratory, with Don Alessandro di Gangi guiding and supporting twelve young boys.

LARP achieved excellent results among the young participants, who completed the activity with great enthusiasm. The youngsters played their parts with great emphasis, demonstrated a strong competitiveness while respecting the opinions of others.

The activity was a stimulating opportunity for fun and learning for all, and aroused great interest in all participants, who showed a great desire to continue playing by also playing different roles and contexts.

The next steps of the Project will consist of comparing the results obtained by each Partner and the future realisation of the LARP Prototype.
